Lukasz Fikus

A personal note is in place because the content of this web site is quite personal.

I'm Polish, 43, living in Warszawa, Poland. I am an electrical engineer, with a master degree in high voltage physics (lightnings and stuff) and a diploma in the subject of protection of air planes from static charges.
I also have an EMBA degree.

This web site is purely private hobbyist DIY one. Why do  I do all this? Because it is my hobby, and since I spent countless precious hours of my free time doing this, and actually I am quite good at it, I thought that it would be a waste if it all vanishes without a trace. So in some way it is a blog, not a DIY site per se.
Besides, I constantly challenge the hifi industry status quo and I am the person who MUST KNOW what's going on. That is why since I was 4 years old I used to open and disassemble all toys instead of using them. As an adult I had this very strong need to finally know what makes stereo good or bad. And finally, because I can't afford to pay an equivalent of  a small house for the stereo set, I decided to learn it all myself. I picked the apple from the garden of Eden. If I was Adam, it would not take Eve to persuade me to TRY IT. I would have taken the whole tree, all apples, naked Eve and the snake for starter.

Why English language? Because of the nature of the internet, I can reach potentially all citizens of the world. That's why I decided not to use Polish as a language of this web site. I hope to establish interesting personal liaisons and to inspire other people to challenge the status quo and experiment with their hi-fi systems. And hopefully my Polish colleagues will also be able to read my writing, so hopefully this is an optimal approach. I apologize for my horrible mix of british cockney, american slang and Polish high school grammar.

My Audio hobby dates back from school days and I have spent 15 years making own loudspeaker projects and 10 years working closely with ARG company on two projects: "the best amplifier in the world" and "the most affordable tubed amplifier." Both projects have been in progress at ARG since the eighties and will probably go on some more years. Having said that, the former project is closer to being finalized than the latter.
For friends and relatives I have been servicing amps and speakers for last 10 years making all kinds of repairs, upgrades, tweaks and changes.

I work for a foreign engineering corporation as a country manager. Same company, 18 years since the graduation.
My passions, apart from DIY and music, are: reading the history of communism, liberal economy, skiing &  photography.  Ski-ing, in fact, I am quite fanatical about.  And please forgive me the worst pictures on the net on my page  (from hobbyist photographer !!!) because I have shaky hands and after hours of soldering I am too tired to make good pics.

I also love eating out and cooking for friends. Having said that, I hate sit-ups.

For Masochists: Some subjective opinions about what's good and what's not in hi-fi.
For unemployed people with free internet access: Historical pics of my early hi-fi
Some top 30 list of my albums (I currently own approx. 8,5 linear meters of CD's but I named just a few milestone albums if you know what I mean)
